USDJPY Attached is my chart of USDJPY. Looking for some thoughts on the recent move. My count shows we were in wave e of wave 4 triangle. Can wave e go beyond the trend line of the triangle? Is wave four still intact, or do we need to go to an alternate count that puts USDJPY in a new downtrend, and this move down is actually wave 3 down? Attached Thumbnails

How often have you right in you analysis of the EWT not nessesary in the count but in the direction ? im curios because the EWT software that i have seen have only a hit rate of 40% but the risk reward ratio is hifgh so people use them going + anyway. best regards

That makes absolutely no sense, plus your supposed wave iv would be entering into the territory of wave i, which is a cardinal sin. Not to mention, only B, X, and 4th waves can be triangles, whose inner labeling is alphabetical (a,b,c,d,e) not numeric (1,2,3,4,5). Oh, and it looks as if you are trying to label a B wave as a five wave move, which it cannot be.

Can you tell us what software you're referring to? I might be proved wrong eventually (who knows?) but I don't think the day will ever come, when any software will supplant an EW manual count -- done properly and rigorously. This is especially true if one is tracking just one or two currency pairs.For me, it's a bit like following the plot of a storyline: this was what happened yesterday or the week before, so this is what's likely to happen now... You do get surprises still, of course. But that's life, right?

IMHO Robert Miner is the best EW teacher and so I believe his software is the best as well. As he has stated other EW programs have to make some assumptions in order to label waves as they happen. With Dynamic Trader you have to work and understand wave counts etc in order to really succeed understanding that all softwares have limitation. Success can't be bought. Time and effort and knowledge are the keys.

MTPredictor Regarding Miner, I only know his book, Dynamic Trading, which I think it is the best out there. Dont know Dynamic Trader software so I really dont know what to say about it. But MTPredictor, after finding by chance an article on the Internet about MTPredictor and then browsing their forum, I was pleasently surprised by the simple and sound way they use it to analyze Elliot Wave, which was a lot like mine . They use it in isolation, looking for clear zig-zag ABC retracements, not caring about the overall count. The overall count is the job of the experience EW-er, but is not a requirement. Still I dont have the software, the Real Time version is something like ~$2.500, really expensive if you ask me. But you can easily grasp the basic concept looking at their articles & forum. All in all I believe MTPredictor shouldnt be discounted and deserves to have a look. Cheers! __________________ -soso

Suntrader im not sure how you mean what is the point of miners software if it dont help you count ? soso yes they only use specific setups they dont force to fins and count the whole wave series, but still they only have a hit rate 40 procent that they are right. They are going + because when they are right often they have setups with risk / reward 1 /3 or higher. best regards

That is pro stuff, ZhouYun. I would not have thought that we could have a truncation in 3rd wave, but I guess that is possible? Prechter seems to propose that only 5th waves can have truncation, at least that is how I understood it from his book? But the 3rd subwave was exceptionally long, so I maybe that is ok? The problem with my current count is that I am still in the middle of 3rd wave, and as the top (should be close to 1.4) is getting nearer I need something to finish the 3rd wave. I feel stupid and i admire you guys that are able to count waves i have a big time finding them is there some trick to make it simpler how do i start out i have read some books about it but it is verry hard for me to get it the bigger waves and all the lesser degres ? best regards

I just start to make I, II, III, IV, V. and try to find small wave i, ii, iii,iv between II and III if not may be that's wrong.... and small wave v should = wave III. Between III and IV i try to find a,b,c if not may be wrong. And last try to find small wave i,ii,iii,iv between IV and V and v = V. I don't like it when it happen, but if it looks good in general view, why not . The Elliott Wave principle is a form of technical analysis that attempts to forecast trends in the financial markets and other collective activities, named after Ralph Nelson Elliott (1871–1948), an accountant who developed the concept in the 1930s, he proposed that market prices unfold in specific patterns, which practitioners today call Elliott Waves. Inspired by the Dow Theory and by observations found throughout nature, Elliott concluded that the movement of the financial market could be predicted by observing and identifying a repetitive pattern of waves.
